Field Lines and Field Line Drawing

The Field Lines body of work is inspired by the electromagnetic lines depicted in scientific and mathematical literature. I am intrigued by the push and pull of energy and its sensory attraction-and-repulsion aesthetic in all the forms in which it appears in the organic and social world–everything from particle physics to personal and cultural dynamics.

The first three works of this series, Field Lines (Red, Blue and Yellow), were constructed of shredded and compacted scientific documents that were subsequently embedded with resin elements to depict vector fields.

The Field Line Drawings are based on rubbings taken from the original Field Lines works. As art derived from and inspired by the original works, they visualize the phenomena of influence—how mimesis becomes genesis.
